Dark Triumph (His Fair Assassin, #2) Robin LaFevers

Rating: 4 out of 5.

I didn’t think I would even pick up this book because I loved Grave Mercy, the first book of the trilogy, so much and was upset knowing it was from a different character’s perspective. BUT after reading the first page, I was hooked.

I was happy to find that there were twists in the plot and in Sybella’s character, from whom we see the perspective. The unexpected twists just added to my excitement.

Sybella is very different in that she loves violence and is obsessed with killing, which is uncommon in most books with a female lead. I love how the author portrays her this way because it is a twist from the norm.

The betrayal, pain, sadness, and growth throughout this book kept me on my toes. I love how this story starts at the end of the first book and takes us through the same events from different eyes. This story does have some abuse, but it also has love and violence. If you loved the first book, you will undoubtedly enjoy this one.

The blurb on the back of the book reads: “Sybella arrives at the convent’s doorstep half mad with grief and despair. Those that serve Death are only too happy to offer her refuge-but at a price. Naturally skilled in the arts of both death and seduction, Sybella, the convent realizes, is one of their most dangerous weapons. But those assassin’s skills are little help when the convent returns her to a life that nearly drove her mad. Her father’s rage and brutality are terrifying, and her brother’s love is equally monstrous. And while Sybella is a weapon of justice wrought by the god of Death himself, he must give her a reason to live. When she discovers an unexpected ally imprisoned in the dungeons, will a daughter of Death find something other than vengeance to live for? This heart-pounding sequel to Grave Mercy serves betrayal, treachery, and danger in equal measure, brining readers back to fifteenth-century Brittany and keeping them on the edge of their seats.”
